3 Tips for Living with Social Anxiety

Anxiety, social and generalized, is one of those things that many people don't "get" because it's invisible. If they can't see it then it isn't "real." 🙄

Whatever they say, I believe you and I understand because I've been where you are!

Here are three simple tips you can start using today to get a hold of your social anxiety.

  • 1. Take care of your mental health. (Seriously.)
    • The first step in dealing with anxiety is recognizing that you have an underlying mental health issue.
    • If you are feeling anxious or depressed, please don't wait
until things get worse before getting help. Recognizing what's going on often helps people find solutions faster.
    • 2. Expose yourself to different situations.

If you feel like you're stuck in a rut, try taking some time off. A change of scenery can do wonders for your mood. Whether it's a weekend trip out of town or a couple of hours spent hanging out at home, expose yourself to lots of different experiences during this break.
      • Try making a small goal like driving past that one new coffee shop to get familiar with the area. Eventually, you will work your way up to confidently walking inside.
      • 3. Get involved with others. (Trust me on this one.)
        • Having friends who understand your social anxiety makes a huge difference. If you can, try to spend more time with empathetic friends and family rather than acquaintances.
        • You may not realize how much you need support until you don't have it.

Social anxiety might feel like it will always have a grip on you, but that's your anxiety telling you big ol' L I E S.

With time and effort you can teach your social anxiety to whisper so quietly you won't be as affected as you are today.

You can become more confident and fearless.

All you have to do is take the first step.
